about set wave collective
Set Wave brings community-centered movement into local spaces.
Through yoga, strength, and somatic practices, Set Wave creates shared experiences that interrupt autopilot, encouraging presence over performance.
I’m katie, the creator of set wave collective.
Based in Boston, I teach yoga, sculpt, and restorative classes designed to help people get out of their heads and back into their bodies.
My own relationship with movement shifted when I stopped treating it as something to power through and started using it as a way to understand what my body was holding. There is strength in working through mental clarity with physical movement. That shift—from force to flow—shaped how I teach and what inspired me to Set Wave.
Yoga is the foundation of my work, but I don’t see it as a stand-alone solution. My classes are an exercise in sensory immersion. I pay attention to where we practice, the music we move to, and sensory rituals like palo santo. They all work together to make the experience feel like a shared reset. And you might even laugh a little.
training and modalities
I'm a yoga teacher of five years, with 200+ training hours through CorePower Yoga and additional intensives in Yoga Sculpt and Yin (CoreRestore). I’m currently completing an M.S. in Health Promotion and Management at American University.
My classes blend high-energy vinyasa, sculpt-inspired strength, and restorative practices to support mobility, power, and nervous system regulation. I integrate reflection tools like the Enneagram and Human Design to help you notice patterns and reconnect with YOU. My events typically include time to socialize and connect with others, because I believe wellness is more impactful when experienced in community.
I’m influenced by teachers and spaces that prioritize artistry, music, and environment (Chicago’s The Space Between Yoga, Malibu’s The Mindry, and NYC’s Humming Puppy, to name a few), as well as the immersive natural beauty of places I’ve practiced, like Vermont, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
WHAT’s A SET WAVE?
The mechanics of surfing and yoga recruit many of the same muscle groups and depend on breath-led movement for balance. They also both teach the power of patience. In surfing, waves come in sets. Rather than chasing every wave that passes, a “set wave” is the one a surfer chooses when the conditions align. It isn’t forced - they move only when the moment is right. This is where the joy and power of flow state can be found.
Most surfers aren’t professionals. They’re people with jobs, obligations, families, pets and full lives. They get out there - early in the morning, before the sun goes down at night - and they surf it.
That idea is at the heart of Set Wave Collective. It’s about finding moments within everyday life to step out of the hustle, gain perspective, and reconnect — not by doing more, but by showing up differently. It’s not about perfection or performance. It’s about recognizing your own set wave — and having the courage to rise and surf it.
