This past November, Katie & Abby, along with special guests, hosted a rejuvenating long weekend of intentional restoration at Bear Mountain Inn + Barn in Waterford, Maine. Nestled in a haven of modern rustic comfort, we woke to mountain views and the stillness of Bear Pond, savoring fresh coffee before morning yoga in the beautifully restored 200-year-old barn. With crisp autumn air and golden leaves surrounding us, we embraced the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with ourselves, and lean into movement, mindfulness, and community.
The weekend was filled with transformative practices that deepened our sense of presence and balance. Guest instructor Erin Girzone of Good Health Is a Habit led us in a deeply restorative somatic practice, guiding us toward a profound sense of relaxation and awareness. We honed alternate nostril breathing, refined our Warrior III, journaled, and even set intentions alongside the fortifying power of Amazonite, the "Gambler’s Stone", a symbol of confidence, resilience, and self-trust—one of the ultimate acts of self-care.
Beyond the mat, the retreat was a blend of adventure, laughter, and shared moments. We embarked on a beautiful hike through the Waterford mountains, pushing forward despite a looming storm, embracing the raw beauty of nature and the camaraderie of the group. Our farewell dinner (and birthday celebration!) in the yoga barn was a true highlight, an evening filled with warmth, gratitude, and delicious food.
Throughout the weekend, laughter echoed through the inn, from creating ghost stories, to troubleshooting fireplace pilot lights, to listening to the origin story of Bear Mountain’s husband-and-wife owners. We treated ourselves to luxurious massages, indulging in deep relaxation. But perhaps the biggest surprise favorite? A comforting cooking class, where we stepped outside our comfort zones, spatchcocked a chicken, and roasted it with hearty root vegetables, creating a meal that nourished both body and spirit.
As we packed up on Sunday morning, we left with a renewed sense of balance, clarity, and connection, feeling deeply restored by the power of nature, movement, and community. This retreat was a reminder that when we prioritize rest and reflection, we create a foundation for sustainable well-being, allowing us to return to our daily lives feeling stronger, steadier, and more in tune with ourselves.
